Commissioner Lee Departing the SEC
March 18, 2022
On March 15, Allison Herren Lee, who has served as an SEC Commissioner since July 2019, announced that she will be stepping down from her post when her term expires in June of this year, but stated that she will stay on as a commissioner until a replacement is confirmed. Lee’s departure will give Democrats a 2-1 majority at the Commission until the vacancy is filled. Because there are vacancies for both Democratic and Republican commissioners, with Commissioner Elad Roisman having resigned late last year, the White House will likely pair the nominees together to ensure partisan balance at the Commission and ease confirmation in the Senate.
