Frequently Asked Questions

Regular membership is open to any investment adviser firm or any other legal entity that has a significant ownership interest in an investment adviser firm.

The conditions of membership are:

  • The investment adviser firm is duly registered in or regulated by the relevant jurisdiction
  • The adviser is a fiduciary investment adviser
  • The adviser endorses the IAA’s Standards of Practice, or
  • Is a legal entity that has a significant ownership in a firm meeting the above three requirements.

Your firm becomes a member by completing and submitting an online membership application or a paper membership application. Once we review and approve the application and receive payment, we will notify you that the membership has been activated and provide further details on your benefits.

IAA annual member dues are based on a firm’s Regulatory Assets Under Management as reported on Form ADV. Dues are assessed and payable at the beginning of each calendar year. For a new member firm, annual dues are prorated by month in the first calendar year. The firm can designate as many employees as it desires to receive membership benefits. For more information contact IAA’s Vice President, Membership, Alain Taylor, at alain.taylor@investmentadviser.org or at (202) 507-7200.

IAA membership is for a 12-month period. For the first year of membership dues are prorated on a monthly basis through September 15th. Annual memberships renew on January 1.

You can complete a membership application online. If you prefer, you can complete a paper membership application and email or mail it back to the IAA.
